Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't care about the new Sherlock? I didn't dislike the first season, but there's really nothing in it that excites me. Hmm.

In other news, I went thrifting for lamp parts and came home with a new flat cap instead, bc it's not like I don't have enough of those. Am still intent on making a lamp, though, my kitchen cabinets cast unfortunate shadows and I got the itch to Make Shit.

I liked Sherlock better when it was called House.

I'm actually being serious. Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century is pretty useless to begin with, because he was basically the CSI of his times. Putting him in the modern era is unnecessary, because the police have learned to do those things for themselves. It made sense to make Holmes a cranky doctor who treats his patients like ~mysteries~. It doesn't make sense for the metropolitan police to let someone like him run around and solve their cases. I think House is the better adaptation honestly.

I tried watching the show, but I felt too sorry for Lestrade to continue. He deserves better than having to deal with the hammer-head shark on a daily basis. :(

Eh, it's the same for House. The idea of a "consulting diagnostician" is.... just ludicrous, and none of the cases he solves would actually be that difficult in real life at all [could, in fact, be solved right from the start if the hospital did basic patient examination...] But it's fiction and you suspend disbelief for fiction.

I feel the same. I'm also lost on the fandom and the high UK viewing figures. *shrug*

Well, there are also some 50+ stories in the canon, and the character is kind of an institution in the UK. The show came with a fandom already built-in, and then it had the bonus of being awesome as well.

most of the Sherlock fans I've met adore the original ACD stories as well, and a lot of the fun is in how the new show references the canon. I guess it's kind of like Doctor Who in that, even though it is a very good show on it's own merits, it probably wouldn't be as successful if it didn't have a long history and legions of fans already
